Crib Gogh the Welsh Arête
Crib Gogh is a knife-edged arête in the Snowdonia National Park in Gwynedd, Wales. The highest point on the arête is 923 m above sea level. A path leads over the arête and three rock-pinnacles to a grassy col at Bwlch Coch. This first part of the ridge is very exposed and climbing it should not be attempted in high winds or by the inexperienced as the consequences can be fatal. Moreover, on fine days the ridge may be very busy and queues can form. To avoid the long queues on the ascent from the east, it is possible to ascend Crib Gogh’s North Ridge which adjoins the main ridge.
It is possible to ascend Crib Gogh from Bwlch y Moch SH663552 or from Nant Peris, an ascent via Cwm Beudu Mawr.
From the col the ridge rises again, joining the main Snowdon ridge via the sister peak Garnedd Ugain in the west. Here the path meets the Pig Track (which descends down to Pen-y-Pass) at Bwlch Glas (marked by a large standing stone), before the final climb to Snowdon summit. To the south of the arête lie the lakes of Glaslyn and Llyn Llydaw. To the north is the Llanberis Pass.
The sheer unpredictability of Crib Gogh is legendary; from sunny and clear on one side of the ridge to complete chaos on the other side; when the wind and cloud come in she is treacherous. Like the clothing and equipment from Crib Gogh Ltd they are designed for one extreme to the next.
Whatever route you take in life; whether it is the casual walk to the treacherous climb the equipment that you purchase from Crib Gogh Ltd is designed to meet any and all needs, setting new standards in design, usability and fashion.
